We’ve recently spent some time with one of Leatt’s latest knee pads, the Knee & Shin Guard 3DF Hybrid EXT ($99.00). The product name covers a lot of space, but so do the pads; they give full coverage impact protection but not knee support (Leatt also makes a knee brace). One unique difference this knee protection has over most others is the use, on the knee cup, of Leatt’s 3DF material, their version of impact-reacting materials; it is soft when worn but is designed to harden with any sharp impact and therefor act like a hard knee cup. This, along with three good straps, helps the knee pad stay in place during long rides, and the soft side of the pad (where you contact the bike) gives good and comfortable feel of the bike. The shin area does have a hard plastic plate over it, and this helps to keep the whole pad in place since your boot can snug it against your shin.
