A man in Arkansas was jailed on Wednesday in connection to the violent death of a dog.
According to authorities, Charles James Dugan, age 20, is suspected of killing the animal with a 30-pound dumbbell and then discarding the remains in a trailer park dumpster, reports Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
A woman who had heard about the brutal act contacted the Lowell Police Department, and an investigation of trash bins in the area soon turned up the beaten animal’s body.
Officers also found a blood-soaked pillow, a square of carpet, and a ball cap, according to WPIX.
Dugan was soon after located at an apartment in Fayetteville, and a search of the residence revealed blood splatter, a missing section of floor covering, and the dumbbell believed to be used in the killing.
The alleged perpetrator is being held on suspicion of felony aggravated cruelty to animals, notes KFSM.
A hearing for Dugan has been scheduled for July 11.
