LONGVIEW, WASHINGTON — A police officer is in the hospital, one child injured and a cow is dead following an incident in Longview, Washington.
On July 26, a cow, estimated to be about 800 pounds, escaped from the Cowlitz County Fairgrounds at about 3:30 p.m. It was spotted strolling down Ocean Beach Highway near the Grocery Outlet about half a mile from the fairgrounds.
Police later spotted the cow in a slough down the road. Officers reported that the cow was frightened but became angry and charged at one of the officers. It also ran over its child owner and proceeded to run into police and civilian vehicles.
Eventually, officers were able to taser the cow, slowing it down. It stood in a yard near 2500 block of Northlake Avenue, where police shot and killed the animal.
Information on the child owner was not released. It is still unclear how the how escaped.
