Singapore Discovery Centre - Discovery of Singapore

The Singapore Discovery Centre is a huge museum depicting various facets of Singapore’s culture and history, and also its current and future technologies. A tour through this museum, can be a virtual tour through the yesterdays, todays and tomorrows of Singapore. The exhibits are presented in an interactive and modern way. Entire family can be entertained at this centre while watching the exhibits, through which the fascinating story of Singapore is unfolded. Some of the famous exhibits of the museum include So Singapore Theatre, Security Pavilion, Unity Pavilion, and Gateway.

The centre was officially opened on 23rd November 1996 by the then-president of Singapore, Ong Teng Cheong. The main purpose of this centre is to educate people about the story of Singapore in an engrossing way. Various interactive activities are fashioned to attain this objective. Many schools also organize trips to this Discovery Centre to educate the students.

The massive centre is sprawled across a floor area of around 4,500 sq meters. There are five main galleries centered on eight themes. The new premises of this center are beautifully designed by the famous design firm RAA – Ralph Appelbaum Associates. They have the fame of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the National Science and Technology Museum in Taiwan following their name.
