After moving of Boston to Missouri to become a doctor in Saykestone, Belinda Simpson and her friend Annie are looking for ways of treatment of a mysterious epidemic of cholera, the disease, which is threatening the local population. Belinda and her friend Anne begin work on developing a vaccine against cholera epidemic, raging at the time in Missouri. It is here that is born her love for the local blacksmith, which her also very strongly loves.
