Officer Matthew Luckhurst, a five-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department, has reportedly been fired after he was accused of leaving a feces-filled sandwich for a sleeping homeless person in May.

An officer with the San Antonio Police Department accused of leaving a feces-filled sandwich for a sleeping homeless man in May has been fired.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, Chief William McManus has issued a statement outlining the events which involved Officer Matthew Luckhurst reportedly bragging to another officer that “...he had picked up some feces, placed it in a slice of bread, and put it in a Styrofoam container next to the unknown homeless male.”
The account went on to reveal that “...the officer reported that he told Luckhurst to go back and throw it away. The officer said he saw Luckhurst go back and he assumed that Luckhurst discarded the container.”
Nevertheless, internal affairs is said to have begun investigating the alleged action in July, resulting in the involvement of review boards and the decision for disciplinary action.
Chief McManus has also been quoted as saying, “This was a vile and disgusting act that violates our guiding principles of 'treating all with integrity, compassion, fairness and respect.' The fact that his fellow officers were so disgusted with his actions that they reported him to Internal Affairs demonstrates that this type of behavior will never be tolerated.”
Meanwhile, an attorney for Luckhurst maintains that he had simply been joking, and no evidence exists to show he actually left the sandwich, reports the Washington Post.
Police efforts to find the homeless man have been unsuccessful.
