With no alternate mode of transportation, two residents of Pierrefonds used kayaks to navigate the flooded Quebec city on Tuesday, May 9.About 2,200 Canadian forces have been deployed to flood-affected parts of Quebec, including Pierrefonds and nearby Montreal, as part of Operation LENTUS.The Canadian Armed Forces said in a statement that the flood relief efforts included sandbag distribution, traffic and evacuation assistance, general patrolling of infrastructure and citizens, and the protection of water treatment plants and bridges.A Public Safety Canada press release stated: “More troops are now deployed for the operation in Quebec than the rest of all Canadian Armed Forces operations around the world combined.”
