Rainwater Rushes Down Stairs During Flooding in Guanaqueros

Heavy rains caused flooding on the streets and footpaths of the seaside town of Guanaqueros in the Coquimbo region of Chile on May 11. The region is currently under a yellow alert for heavy rains and flooding.Chilean police and emergency services patrolled damaged roads and carried out rescues on May 11 as floodwaters rose. The normally dry Punitaqui estuary, which runs through the town of Punitaqui in the Coquimbo region, filled with water starting in the early hours of May 11, shutting off transportation routes to other nearby towns.
