National Guard Prepares for Post-Hurricane Florence Flooding in Georgetown

The South Carolina National Guard rehearsed their plans for flood response operations in Georgetown on September 23, ahead of continued warnings of severe flooding, more than a week after Hurricane Florence hit the area.102 soldiers were deployed to Georgetown, South Carolina, to work on a secondary plan of action in anticipation of possible flooding where the Highway 17 “Ocean Highway” bridges converge in the Winyah Bay area, they reported.Floodwater from Hurricane Florence left rivers swelling, threatening to swamp communities and leaving as many as 8,000 people on alert for possible evacuation, CBS reported.Flood levels in the area were expected to reach 10 to 12 feet.
