Fresh off our ‘success’ with brew number one - we take another stab at the www.boxbrewkits.com kit ‘All American Ale’.
We make a few changes to account for our boil off rate, and attempt to stabilise our mash temperature.
In part one we mash in and sparge the grain.
In part two we boil and add the hops.
In part three we bottle.
In part four we taste the beer.
The particulars:
“All American Amber Ale”
1.75 lbs / 800g 2 Row
.25 lbs / 100g Crystal malt
.25 lbs / 100g Amber malt
1 oz / 28g Tettnang hops
1 pkg Safale US-05 Ale Yeast
Targets:
5.9% ABV, OG 1.053, FG 1.008
Target mash temp: 156ºF
Strike water 2L
Sparge water 5L
Actual OG: 1.044 - way too low, we’re not getting good efficiency.
Actual FG: 1.009
