Fellow rockers are mourning the sudden death of 66-year-old Tom Petty.
The musician was reportedly found unconscious in his Malibu home after suffering cardiac arrest, and was rushed to UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center where he was taken off life support and passed away, surrounded by friends and family.
Sir Paul McCartney was one of the first to comment, Tweeting, “Sending love to Tom Petty and his family at this difficult time.”
John Mayer Tweeted, “I loved Tom Petty and covered his songs because I wanted to know what it felt like to fly… ‘You belong somewhere you feel free.’”
Kid Rock weighed in, Tweeting, “Just when you thought today could not get any worse… R.I.P Tom Petty. Thank you for your beautiful music and inspiration.”
And Rolling Stone magazine got a quote from Bob Dylan, who reportedly said “It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. I’ll never forget him.”
Petty performed his final show with the Heartbreakers at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 25, finishing up their 40th anniversary tour just one week before he died.
