Chad Coleman, ARCA Racing Series driver in Ford Thunderbird was involved in a first lap accident at the Georgia Power 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on August 28, 1998. Chad Coleman died of injuries from a multicar crash on the first lap of the Auto Racing Champions of America's Georgia Power 200 stock-car race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Coleman was transported via helicopter to Georgia Baptist Medical Center where doctors were unable to revive him.

Coleman was airlifted to Georgia Baptist Regional Medical Center in nearby Atlanta. Chad was pronounced dead after medical personnel were unable to revive him. It took track safety officials nearly 30 minutes to cut Coleman out of his battered car, which hit a wall almost head-on.

The Georgia Power 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway was Chad Coleman's fourth career ARCA start. His first start came earlier that season at Daytona, where he finished 17th after leading 17 laps.

Chad Coleman was single and had no children.
