PRESENTED BY JOANNE COLLINS
PRODUCED BY JOHN HOUGH & JOANNE COLLINS
The Finns are two brothers, Ciarán and Hugh Finn, based in Dublin city. They grew up in a very musical household in Rathdowney in County Laois, and have been performing and composing music as their careers since 2010.
They play weekly in the Dublin music scene and then tour the rest of Ireland, Europe and America sporadically throughout each year. Between them, they have worked closely with the likes of Bill Shanley, Johnny McEvoy, Gerry O'Connor, Mike Denver, Wally Page, Don Mescal, George Murphy, Tupelo, All Folked Up, and Ian Drew among many others and have gained vital experience from it. With over eight albums and many singles recorded between them with different bands/projects including Na Fianna, Puca, Subsonic, Kingdom Of Mine and more, throughout their respective careers, The Finns are well equipped to go on and make their own individual stamp in the music industry as this duet. They are currently recording their eagerly awaited first full album and will be released September 2017.
Their roots lie in traditional Irish music but their music has now respectively taken them a different direction away from traditional. The Finns’ music is described as alternative folk roots, or acoustic indie folk…"honest songs deserve folk and folk songs deserve honesty”. Although it's folk, their sound is very modern, with Ciarán combining percussive beats with outstanding rhythmic guitar playing evident throughout all the songs. The lyrics (written by both brothers) are new, fresh and original, backed up by effective chord progressions and catchy hooks usually with Hugh on tenor guitar or banjo, although the general mix of their playing works very well and thoroughly enjoyable to watch live or listen at home.
