At 23, award-winning pianist/singer and composer Tate Sheridan has already established a fine reputation in the Australian jazz and pop community. He has been showcasing his original work for many years, performing at the Merimbula, Moruya, and Capital Jazz Festivals as well as touring renowned Australian jazz clubs and theatres.
In 2014 he was acknowledged as the ACT Canberra Critic’s Circle Artist of the Year for his dedication to both jazz and pop and his extremely high demand as a concert performer. Tate has recorded albums at Hihat Studios and ANU Studios with musicians from all of Australia. His debut jazz album 'Tate Sheridan' was released early this year and has just received a glowing 4-star review in The Australian. Tate's pop originals have gained the attention of legendary Australian artists such as the brains behind INXS – principle songwriter Andrew Farriss with the pair recently performing a sold out show together in the Nation’s Capital. Even Sir Elton John, arguably one of the biggest international legends in music has shown a great deal of interest in the young performer’s career, becoming a mentor and friend to the young artist.
Last year Tate became one of the youngest ever musicians to be nominated for the prestigious Freedman Jazz Fellowship, and has already been awarded the Bernhard Neumann Memorial Prize, the Winifred Burston Memorial Prize, and the Peter and Lena Karmel Anniversary Prize for his dedication to music. In December Tate released his debut pop EP to coincide with a national support slot. He joined Sir Elton John on all of his Australian and New Zealand shows – an incredible validation of his own original work and musical talent. Even at such a young age, he is playing and singing with a maturity and sensitivity well beyond his years.
