‘Entertainment and warmth’ are the only two necessisites for a positive lifestyle as far as Ryan is concerned. Entertainment through music and warmth through love.
At the tender of four years old Ryan O’Shaughnessy first heard the combination of metal tapping off a hard wood floor in sync with the Jazz piano. which fused together to become basis of his rhythmic inspiration. Growing up in an enviroment which allowed Ryan’s musical abilities and creative streak to blossom proved extremely important in the long run.
Ryan recalls singing, ‘Where is Love’, from the muisical Oliver when he was 5 years old to a crowd of teary eyed mothers as his very first memory. However there is footage to prove this was not his first public performance. Sitting tall in his high chair, Ryan can be seen singing a Boyzone classic at his sisters Communion Party.
His partents are most likely to blame for his musical streak, “My mam has always had the voice of an angle, I think I learned all I now know about harmonies and melodies from her”. It was his fathers guitar that he picked up for the first time to learn Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven, which wasn’t hard to find, concidering a guitar was never more then 3 moves away at his family home in Loughshinny where he grew up like all young boys, chasing girls and causing trouble.
After holding a perminant role in ‘Fair City’ for 9 years, Ryan decided to follow his ear and joined a band, leaving behind the tv show and his education.
After a year of strenuios hard work with the Band, Ryan left and went back to school.
During this year, Ryan began penning lyrics to vent his feelings. When the year was compelte, Leaving Cert in hand, Ryan choose quite impulsively to take the Songwriting path and applied for a place at Bimm Dublin, which was enroling for their very first year. He was accepted as a songwriter and began the journey in Sept 2011.
Summer 2012 was a turning point in Ryans carreer when he was offered a recording contract with Sony Music RCA, which he openly accepted. His Debut Ep with lead track ‘No Name’ reached No.1 in Ireland and No.9 in the UK. He told me “It never hit me until I began my first live tour. People were actually paying to come hear me play”. Currently, Ryan is working on his much Anticipated Debut Album, which is projected for release in Sept 2013.
