PRESENTED BY KAREN MALONEY
Steve Spade is one of Ireland's hottest up and coming magicians. Steve began to learn magic as soon as he could walk and talk. Reports date back to his third party when Steve was already vanishing and producing objects. The family dog apparently disappeared on more than one occasion.
As the years passed by, Steve learned more and more and began to put these skills into practice. He found new influences in iconic figures -- none more so than his idol, Harry Houdini. Working with local Limerick mainstay Tony Black and contemporary Irish magician Keith Barry, Steve began to learn more about the arts of escapology and mentalism.
Over the past few years Steve has performed a variety of stunts and shows all over the country, more recently picking up some international acclaim in London and New York. In 2010 Steve decided to embrace his inner Houdini and was sealed inside a wooden crate and dropped into the Shannon River. This got him national attention from news outlets.
Steve examined what was purported to be a priceless set of Houdini's actual handcuffs. While validating the authenticity, Steve challenged the show's hosts to a gamble. He would attempt to escape from 100 feet of rope in under 52 seconds -- a record set by Houdini. If he beat the record, he would become the owner of Houdini's cuffs.
In a staggering feat, Steve broke free of the rope in 48 seconds, besting even his hero. This put Steve on the map internationally not only to average people but to other magicians the world over.
Speaking of skillsets, this is what truly differentiates Steve from other magicians in Ireland. Steve does not focus on one particular magic -- instead, he encapsulates elements of magic, mentalism, hypnotism, cold reading, escapology, dangerous stunts and so much more. Steve can just as easily impress on the streets with close up magic as he can when escaping from chains, handcuffs, rope and strait jackets.
