Snow and Big Swells Batter Dublin, Two Weeks After Rare Snowstorm Crippled Country

Snow fell on Dublin and other eastern areas of Ireland on March 18, two weeks after a rare snowstorm dubbed the ‘Beast from the East’ crippled the country, causing flight and ground transport disruption and power outages.The new snowfall was accompanied by strong easterly winds and high swells. The weather forced the cancellation of St. Patrick’s Festival events in Dublin and the Ireland rugby team’s homecoming following their Six Nations championship victory. Police warned motorists to drive with care due to reduced visibility.This footage, shared by the local coast guard service in the south Dublin suburb of Dun Laoghaire, shows large waves battering the snowy coastline in the nearby areas of Killiney, Dalkey, Sandycove, Glasthule and Seapoint.After one minute and forty seconds, the Martello tower in Sandycove is visible. The tower was the location for the opening chapter in James Joyce’s acclaimed novel Ulysses, published in 1922. The tower is now the site of a James Joyce museum.
