MIAMI — A Miami-based Instagram model ruined her vision after trying to change her eye color by undergoing a very risky surgical procedure.
According to the New York Post, Nadinne Bruna travelled to Bogota, Colombia in October 2016. There she spent $3,000 to to have medical staff injected her eyeballs with silicone.
But the procedure went wrong and hurt Bruna's optic nerves, giving her glaucoma.
Brunna returned to Colombia to try and repair the damage, but it was already done.
The 32 year-old later had the implants removed back in the U.S., but her condition was irreversible. As a result, she's now got the vision of a 90-year-old.
Brunna blames herself for what happened, telling the New York Post she was stupid and didn't do the research.
She had to quit modeling and is now living off savings plus income earned via Instagram. Bruna has close to 200,000 followers on the site.
Eye specialist Dr. Richard Rose told the New York Post that people wanting to change their eye color should use contact lenses as they're safe, removable and approved.
