With the BJP set to fall short of a majority in Karnataka, the Congress has offered to support Janata Dal (Secular), or JDS, leader H.D. Kumaraswamy as the state’s next chief minister.
Congress and JD(S) leadership met Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala to stake claim in forming the next government. BJP’s CM candidate Yeddyurappa, however, said BJP is the single largest party. He also met the governor to stake claim at forming the government.
All eyes are now on Governor Vajubhai Vala who will have to decide whether to call BJP, the single largest winner of seats, to try to form the government or go with the JD(S)-Congress combine, which together have a clear majority in the 224-member assembly.
