00:05:39Don't you think he'll bust a blood vessel when he finds out you've been chasing this girl all over the island?
00:05:44Well, if you don't, I'm out a hundred bucks.
00:05:46Sixty of my own and the forty I won from you guys in the craft game.
00:05:49Remember?
00:05:50Yeah, I remember.
00:05:52Oh, what do you say, Lelana?
00:05:53Latsy can sure pick out the dresses, can't he?
00:05:55Do you like it?
00:05:56Like it, honey.
00:05:58Singalow, you sure can fill out those glad rags.
00:06:01Horseshoe will be jealous, no?
00:06:03Jealous? He'll burn like a torchlight parade.
00:06:05Here he comes.
00:06:08Oh, Horseshoe, it's lovely.
00:06:10I had no idea it was so beautiful.
00:06:22Hiya, boys.
00:06:23Hiya, Horseshoe.
00:06:26Hello, Private.
00:06:33Looks like our plans went a little haywire.
00:06:35Much haywire.
00:06:36All from your fault.
00:06:37We're going to make Horseshoe jealous.
00:06:39Well, he isn't jealous.
00:06:40He has another girl.
00:06:41Well, you've still got me, ain't you?
00:06:43You!
00:06:44What do I want with you, Private?
00:06:46Why, you cheap little...
00:06:48Give me that dress.
00:06:51Let's keep that music going.
00:06:53Ha!
00:07:19Looks like a good night to get rid of that bar whiskey.
00:07:21Aye.
00:07:23Everything all right?
00:07:24That's great.
00:07:43What's this I hear about you and Harrington?
00:07:45Harrington? He's nobody.
00:07:47He's a constabulary man, isn't he?
00:07:49He knows what's going on up there.
00:07:51He's a constabulary man, isn't he?
00:07:52He knows what's going on at the outpost.
00:07:54So does Horseshoe, and he's much nicer.
00:07:56I'm not interested in a man's qualifications.
00:07:58I want to know if the work has slowed down.
00:08:00Is the constabulary worried?
00:08:05Go to work.
00:08:21Go to work.
00:08:51Whoa!
00:09:06Whoa!
00:09:07Ha, ha, ha, ha!
00:09:08Ha, ha, ha, ha!
00:09:22You gentlemen can readily understand the necessity for speed.
00:09:26Already, Walker has pushed far into the jungle.
00:09:29The equipment which arrived by today's boat...
00:09:31will enable him to conquer the swamps...
00:09:34and to complete his preliminary survey.
00:09:36And then?
00:09:37Then the Americans descend on us with an army of steam shovels...
00:09:40and his peaceful island is abandoned.
00:09:42Ha, ha.
00:09:43At least, gentlemen, we can be frank with one another.
00:09:46Whatever happens to the island is of little concern.
00:09:49Our problem is to prevent the work under the present set-up.
00:09:52All this talk about oil wells is only a smokescreen.
00:09:56Walker is definitely a government engineer...
00:09:58sent out here from Washington...
00:10:00to determine the practical ability of Taropaga as an air base.
00:10:04If an air base is to be established...
00:10:06the company should be allowed to bid for the site, no?
00:10:08I am assured that one country will double the American bid.
00:10:12At least double.
00:10:13And so does this gentleman.
00:10:14Where is Cajano?
00:10:16Cajano?
00:10:18Cajano is Captain Hawthorne's guest...
00:10:20on an inspection tour of the island.
00:10:24That is really funny.
00:10:25The chief of the constabulary showing one of us...
00:10:27what is being done to protect Walker.
00:10:30A wise precaution.
00:10:31The fact that Walker is being protected...
00:10:33proves the importance of the work.
00:10:36The constabulary can very easily ruin our plans.
00:10:39Nothing can ruin our plans.
00:10:41Nothing except our own stupidity.
00:10:44We must delay Walker and his engineers wherever possible.
00:10:47Meantime...
00:10:48consolidating our own gains against the time...
00:10:51and we shall control the island.
00:10:53You, Holo...
00:10:54shall return at once to the outpost.
00:10:56Something more effective than sniping must be arranged.
00:10:58Very simple.
00:11:00All our equipment is in Miss Flimsy's storeroom.
00:11:02If it should catch fire tomorrow night...
00:11:05Holo, you're priceless.
00:11:07I'll be sure you'll remember that when we divide the spoils.
00:11:11The handful of constabulary must not be allowed to interfere.
00:11:14You gentlemen know what has to be done to this end.
00:11:16There must be no half-hearted measures, mind you...
00:11:18to be ruined by a few planes and a couple of bombs.
00:11:22With you, Mononui...
00:11:24to lead the way, there's no chance of failure.
00:11:27Mononui.
00:11:28Thank you, gentlemen.
00:11:30I shall do my best to deserve your confidence.
00:11:32Just kind of a gift, I guess.
00:11:34Either got it or you ain't.
00:11:36Now you take me, for instance.
00:11:38I'm not the best-looking guy in the world...
00:11:40but I'm absolute dynamite for women.
00:11:42With my natural ability...
00:11:44I thought I was a rapper.
00:11:47Why, fellas, do you know...
00:11:49dear life's standing on that...
00:11:51Hey, Slat!
00:11:52Where you going? Come on in.
00:11:54Hiya, boy, all right?
00:11:56Say...
00:11:58the side of your face is all red.
00:12:00You ain't got a toothache, have you?
00:12:01No, I ain't got a toothache.
00:12:03My health and physical condition is okay.
00:12:05Well, that's fine. Of course, I was worried.
00:12:07You know, a funny thing...
00:12:08just now when you were coming in...
00:12:10for a minute I thought you were trying to sneak away.
00:12:12Ain't that so, boy?
00:12:13That's so.
00:12:14Yeah, like you were ashamed of something.
00:12:16You ain't got nothing to be ashamed of, have you?
00:12:18Nothing but the company I keep.
00:12:20Yeah, I know.
00:12:21I saw you at the start.
00:12:23A fella's got to be careful about things like that.
00:12:25Slats, especially a guy like you.
00:12:27You know, down at the bottom of the ladder...
00:12:29sort of working his way up.
00:12:31What's the idea of the horse-mastering?
00:12:33Oh, nothing. I was just thinking...
00:12:34Well, be on your way.
00:12:35You make too much noise.
00:12:36Wait a minute. Stick around, buddy.
00:12:38I ain't heard no curfew yet.
00:12:40Are you forgetting who's who around here, mister?
00:12:43All right.
00:12:44Hide behind your stripes, you big ape.
00:12:46And you better keep on hiding behind them...
00:12:47if you want to keep that grass jaw of yours in one piece.
00:12:49Attention!
00:12:52I want to warn all you constabulary men about fighting.
00:12:55There's been entirely too many complaints from the townspeople...
00:12:58and the commanding officers decided to put a stop to it.
00:13:01A police detail will patrol the town at all hours.
00:13:03And any constabulary men caught fighting...
00:13:05will be severely dealt with.
00:13:07As you were.
00:13:11Listen, Slats.
00:13:13You know, you got me all wrong.
00:13:15Here I come home with my heart full of sunshine and gladness...
00:13:19and you...
00:13:21well, you don't even act like a gentleman.
00:13:23Oh, I ain't a gentleman, huh?
00:13:25There you go, see?
00:13:26Why don't you relax?
00:13:28I'm a gentleman.
00:13:30I'm a gentleman.
00:13:31I'm a gentleman.
00:13:32I'm a gentleman.
00:13:33I'm a gentleman.
00:13:34I'm a gentleman.
00:13:35I'm a gentleman.
00:13:36I'm a gentleman.
00:13:37There you go, see?
00:13:38Why don't you relax?
00:13:40You know, I got something pretty nice fixed up for you.
00:13:43I suppose you brought me back some poison ivy.
00:13:45Boy, you're tough.
00:13:46Listen.
00:13:47You saw the girl that came off the boat with me, didn't you?
00:13:49Kind of sensational, huh?
00:13:51Come to think of it, I did notice some frail get-off-that-boat.
00:13:54Looked just like a girl to me.
00:13:56Hair, eyes, arms and legs.
00:13:58Well, you know.
00:13:59That sort of thing.
00:14:01All right, skip it.
00:14:03But here's the point.
00:14:04There's another one just like her.
00:14:06And did I give you a bill for it?
00:14:08Boy, like nobody's business.
00:14:11Where'd you pick them up?
00:14:13I didn't pick them up.
00:14:14They picked me up.
00:14:15You know how it is.
00:14:17You were the only guy on the boat.
00:14:19Okay, skip it.
00:14:21No skin off my nose.
00:14:26What's her name?
00:14:27Who?
00:14:28The other one.
00:14:29Oh, Miss Price.
00:14:31Margaret Price.
00:14:32She's a pal of my gal's.
00:14:34I'm trying to keep them apart so I can get along with Marcia.
00:14:37Marcia.
00:14:40Oh, Marcia Bradford.
00:14:42Pretty, ain't it?
00:14:43She's an anthropologist.
00:14:46No kidding.
00:14:47I'm gonna meet her tonight at nine.
00:14:49Teach her the lure of the island.
00:14:52Good, huh?
00:14:53All right, that's what you get for going around with class.
00:14:56You know, I don't understand.
00:14:58Class, ain't it?
00:14:59It can't be on a level as she felt for you.
00:15:01Listen, chump.
00:15:02I'm a young soul and I'm from depths.
00:15:05She told me that.
00:15:06You're not a young soul.
00:15:08You're an old heel.
00:15:11Hail the conquering hero.
00:15:15Oh, so I'm gonna have trouble with you, too, huh?
00:15:18Not at all, Sergeant.
00:15:19Will you join me?
00:15:20Sure, why not?
00:15:22I've just taken this cafe over since you were here the last time.
00:15:25I'd like to salute the hero.
00:15:27Oh, uh, your name is, uh...
00:15:29Morton.
00:15:30Tom Morton.
00:15:31Okay, if that's the way you feel about it, Mr. Morton.
00:15:34All right with me.
00:15:36You, uh, you are a hero.
00:15:38Well, they did give me the constabulary medal of honor.
00:15:43Oh, the medal of honor.
00:15:45There's no doubt about it.
00:15:47Let's see.
00:15:51Yes.
00:15:52You did something with a plane.
00:15:54Well, in a way, I dropped three or four bombs on a two-bit bandit by the name of Mononui.
00:16:00Mononui?
00:16:02What's become of this Mononui?
00:16:04He was killed?
00:16:06If he ain't, he must be still running.
00:16:09Well, uh, what shall we drink to?
00:16:12The constabulary medal of honor?
00:16:14Yeah.
00:16:15Let's give Mononui a drink.
00:16:17After all, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have got it.
00:16:20By all means.
00:16:22To Mononui.
00:16:25Certainly.
00:16:26Miss Bradford.
00:16:27Room number seven.
00:16:28No, no, not Miss Bradford.
00:16:30Miss Price.
00:16:31Oh, Miss Price.
00:16:33Number four.
00:16:34Thanks.
00:16:38Hey, you got a dictionary back there?
00:16:41A dictionary?
00:16:42Yeah, yeah, yeah, a dictionary.
00:16:45Oh, yes, sir.
00:16:46Oh, yes, sir.
00:16:53Here, take it.
00:17:04Ha, ha, ha.
00:17:05I've been wanting it all my life.
00:17:17Come in.
00:17:29Well, young man, what do you want?
00:17:31You come here to make faces?
00:17:33Yes, ma'am.
00:17:34I mean, no, ma'am.
00:17:35You see, I, well, I just happened to knock on the wrong door, that's all.
00:17:38There's a friend of mine living here, and I wanted to...
00:17:40Oh, just a moment, please.
00:17:42Sir, apparently you belong to the island constabulary.
00:17:45Could you tell me how I'd get in touch with Captain Hawthorne?
00:17:47Yes, ma'am.
00:17:48He ain't...
00:17:49I mean, he's not here now.
00:17:50Not here?
00:17:51No, ma'am.
00:17:52He's making an inspection.
00:17:53He'll be here the first thing in the morning.
00:17:54Oh, very good.
00:17:55Then perhaps you'll take a note to him.
00:18:01Young man, you look distinctly unwell to me.
00:18:04No kidding.
00:18:05I mean, do I?
00:18:06Indeed you do.
00:18:08Oh, you're pale.
00:18:10Oh, you're pale.
00:18:12You're trembling.
00:18:14You're coming down with something.
00:18:16Yes, ma'am.
00:18:17I'm coming down with both feet on a guy's neck.
00:18:21The thing that don't get him is a two-time war.
00:18:23The thing that don't get him is a two-time war.
00:18:25The thing that don't get him is a two-time war.
00:18:28Catch him, no?
00:18:29No.
00:18:30You bother Milligan lady, I'll kick your teeth in.
00:18:33Chop, chop.
00:18:34No, no.
00:18:35Milligan lady.
00:18:41Coffee?
00:18:42No.
00:18:43Oh.
00:18:44He just wants to know what time he wants your coffee in the morning.
00:18:47It's the custom down here to wake you up with a small black.
00:18:49Oh, is that it?
00:18:51Tell him eight o'clock.
00:18:52Catch him, eight.
00:18:59Okey-doke.
00:19:01We were about to come to blows.
00:19:03I'm certainly glad you happened along.
00:19:05I didn't happen along.
00:19:06I was looking for you.
00:19:08You've got to have finesse.
00:19:09That's all you need.
00:19:10The light touch.
00:19:12One gander at that babe on the boat and I said to myself,
00:19:14Boy, I think you've got something here.
00:19:17So what did I do?
00:19:18Did I tell her so?
00:19:19Not much.
00:19:20I gave her that absinthe treatment.
00:19:22A loop.
00:19:23Get it?
00:19:24And would you believe it that within three days that I...
00:19:38Oh.
00:20:04How are all of you?
00:20:05Yes.
00:20:06And how are all your foes?
00:20:07Well, they're fine, thanks.
00:20:08How are all yours?
00:20:09Say, how do you like our island?
00:20:11I love it.
00:20:12But I'm surprised to find so many Americans in the constabulary.
00:20:15Well, you see, me and Horseshoe was in the Marines down here.
00:20:18Our enlistment ran out, we liked the island,
00:20:20so we decided to hook up with the island.
00:20:22Oh, something like the army, hmm?
00:20:24Well, sort of.
00:20:25It's really the native police.
00:20:27But most of the officers and non-coms are guys just like me.
00:20:30Yes, I noticed Jack Donovan had sights on his fleet.
00:20:33Yes, but that's a long story.
00:20:36We want it outside. Sergeant Donovan's in trouble.
00:20:38Horseshoe?
00:20:39Yes, he says to hurry.
00:20:41Pardon me a minute, will you, beautiful?
00:20:42Certainly, but I thought you relished the idea of Donovan being in trouble.
00:20:46I do when I put him in it.
00:20:47But he's just stupid enough to get himself in a real jam unless I look after him.
00:21:06Oh, so it's you, you snake in the grass, saying you're in trouble.
00:21:09Why, you devil crossed me.
00:21:11Ah, ah, ah, wait a minute.
00:21:13Where's all this sunshine and gladness we got?
00:21:15Never mind that, take off your coat.
00:21:17You mean it? You're going to get out from underneath those slices of glass?
00:21:20Boy, I've been waiting for this chance for a long time.
00:21:22Hey, you two, what's coming up?
00:21:26Well?
00:21:27Uh, good evening, Lieutenant.
00:21:28It's a nice evening, a bit warm, but nice.
00:21:31Yeah, nice night to throw you birds in the break.
00:21:34Fighting, eh?
00:21:35Oh, no, nothing like that.
00:21:36Fighting? Me and Slats won't pounce like us.
00:21:39Well, you see, sir, we, uh, I was showing him a new dance.
00:21:44It's the latest thing in the States.
00:21:46Big Apple, they call it.
00:21:50Okay, let's see it.
00:21:54You want us to?
00:21:55I want to see you two do the Big Apple right now, yeah.
00:22:04Yes.
00:22:16Pretty thing.
00:22:17Yeah, darling.
00:22:22So that's the Big Apple.
00:22:25I don't quite get it, do you, Corporal?
00:22:27Yeah, it's, uh, kind of complicated, like...
00:22:30Trip it again, boys.
00:22:34Come on.
00:23:01Here comes the Heavenly Twins.
00:23:04Yeah.
00:23:16Hiya, horseshoe.
00:23:19What's the matter with that guy?
00:23:20Somebody steal his marbles?
00:23:21Not his marbles, his gal.
00:23:23Come on while I hustle up a cup of java, and I'll tell you all about it.
00:23:25Be with you in a minute.
00:23:32Hi, Sergeant.
00:23:33Welcome to Fever Flats.
00:23:34Thanks, glad to be back.
00:23:35Hey, you liar.
00:23:36Did you have a good trip?
00:23:37Couldn't have been better.
00:23:38Well, I've been due to get away for a long time myself.
00:23:41But I guess I'm stuck here.
00:23:42Well, how's the job coming?
00:23:44Oh, we're moving along.
00:23:46Couldn't do it, though, without you constabulary fellows to ride herd on the natives.
00:23:50Any talk about a back home?
00:23:51Well, I heard a guy on the radio.
00:23:53He was wondering about maybe they ought to fortify the islands or something.
00:23:56Oh, by the way, I cut this out of a magazine for you.
00:24:03Surveys are at the present being conducted in more than one locality
00:24:06with a view to locating air bases in the South Sea.
00:24:10There's a consensus of opinion among military and naval men
00:24:13that our first line of defense is really out there in the ocean
00:24:16and not along the west coast of our mainland as heretofore supposed.
00:24:21Well, at least they know we're alive.
00:24:25Are you taking over the fight now?
00:24:27Yep, you bet I am.
00:24:29Harrington going on leave?
00:24:31No, not exactly.
00:24:33I believe I found a spot where he can be used to better advantage.
00:24:42He thought he had something all right when he stepped off the boat,
00:24:45and he did for about five minutes.
00:24:46Good night.
00:24:53Kind of quiet, ain't he?
00:24:55Sure he's quiet, and he'll stay quiet.
00:24:57Imagine that dope thinking he's going to show everybody up with his new queen.
00:25:01What a laugh.
00:25:02Hey, Slats, here's something kind of interesting.
00:25:31Hiya, Percy.
00:25:33You look a little sunk.
00:25:34Anything wrong?
00:25:37All right.
00:25:38Don't pay any attention to me.
00:25:40Just on my regular inspection.
00:25:44Hey, something must be leaking.
00:25:52Listen, Percy.
00:25:54Now, be careful who I fool around with.
00:25:55I wouldn't try anything funny.
00:25:58Now, be careful who I fool around with.
00:25:59I wouldn't try and take in too much territory.
00:26:02Why, only last night I...
00:26:06Target practice, huh?
00:26:09What's the matter, Sergeant?
00:26:10You got high blood pressure or something?
00:26:15It's a lucky thing for you you got the whole constabulary behind you.
00:26:17That's all I gotta say.
00:26:19What do you mean by that crack?
00:26:21Of course, if you was any part of a man, you wouldn't go around waving those stripes of yours under a guy's nose
00:26:24because you hold a grudge against him.
00:26:26Well, cut it out.
00:26:27That is, if you was a man.
00:26:29Well, come on, come on.
00:26:30There's nobody around.
00:26:31Wait a minute.
00:26:32Wait just a minute.
00:26:36Listen, soldier.
00:26:37I've been waiting for this for a long time.
00:26:39Come on.
00:26:43Cut it out, Cotton.
00:26:44Leave me alone.
00:26:45Cut it out, will you?
00:26:46Help!
00:26:47Cut it out, will you?
00:26:48Ouch!
00:26:49Help!
00:26:50Help!
00:26:51Cut it out, will you?
00:26:52Ouch!
00:26:53Help!
00:26:54Help!
00:26:55Come on.
00:26:56Cut it out, will you?
00:26:57You can't do that to me.
00:26:58Ouch!
00:26:59Donovan, if there is anything more despicable than a man who uses the protection of his rank
00:27:04to inflict physical punishment on another who is forbidden to retaliate,
00:27:08I have yet to discover it.
00:27:10What are you going to say for yourself?
00:27:12Will you cease your eyes?
00:27:13Silence!
00:27:14And remove those stripes.
00:27:15You're back in the rear rank.
00:27:26Help!
00:27:38Well?
00:27:39May I speak to the captain, sir?
00:27:40Not now.
00:27:41Not now.
00:27:42Yes, sir.
00:27:43It's about Miss Price.
00:27:44Who?
00:27:45Miss Price.
00:27:46She said that you were...
00:27:47Oh, yes.
00:27:48Yes.
00:27:49You two go ahead.
00:27:50I'll meet you in the office.
00:27:51Come along, Harrington.
00:27:56Well, what is it?
00:27:57A message for the captain, sir.
00:28:20Where did you get this?
00:28:21A lady gave it to me in town, sir.
00:28:23Where did you get this?
00:28:24A lady gave it to me in town, sir.
00:28:25Yes.
00:28:26Yes.
00:28:27Miss Price.
00:28:28Determined woman.
00:28:30Quite unfortunate.
00:28:31I'll say so, sir.
00:28:32What do you mean?
00:28:33Nothing, sir.
00:28:34What I was about to say was it's an unfortunate coincidence that just as this lady arrives,
00:28:39my duty should call me away.
00:28:41Yes, sir.
00:28:42What are you smiling at?
00:28:43Nothing, sir.
00:28:44Just a slight twitch I got.
00:28:46Gets away from me sometimes.
00:28:47Well, keep it under control.
00:28:49Yes, sir.
00:28:50You used to be a good sergeant before you took to fighting at the drop of a hat.
00:28:53Do you think you've got that out of your system?
00:28:55Oh, yes, sir.
00:28:56You saw for yourself I refused to fight with Sergeant Private Donovan only because I knew
00:29:00how the captain feels.
00:29:01Yes.
00:29:02Yes, sir.
00:29:03Harrington, I'm giving you back your stripes.
00:29:06Yes, sir.
00:29:07I want you to report to Miss Price.
00:29:09Explain the circumstances of my absence.
00:29:11Show her every courtesy.
00:29:13You're representing me, understand?
00:29:15She's a very influential woman.
00:29:16Yes, sir.
00:29:17If anything important turns up, send me a wireless.
00:29:19I'll fly back in half an hour.
00:29:21See that my confidence is not misplaced.
00:29:24Yes, sir.
00:29:49And according to your figures, Walker, you'll be ready for real construction in 60 days.
00:30:13Yes, with any kind of a break.
00:30:16When that new equipment gets out here, I'll double the force of labor and push right ahead.
00:30:44Listen to that music.
00:30:50What a night.
00:30:52It's no wonder a white man goes off his nut down here.
00:30:55You're in no danger of going off your nut, are you, Mr. Walker?
00:30:58Well, I hope not.
00:31:00Watch out for the bit now, men.
00:31:02But you natives seem gated for this sort of life.
00:31:05Drifting along, taking things as they come.
00:31:08But even we natives have our dreams.
00:32:08Oh, so there you are, and ain't you pretty.
00:32:17Please don't forget yourself.
00:32:18He's an uncommissioned officer of squatters, and I'm on the...
00:32:20You're the lowest form of animal life in the jungle.
00:32:23Why, if you were half a man, I'd...
00:32:24It's no use, sonny boy.
00:32:26Because I'm bound for town on a very delicate mission which has to do with...
00:32:29Fire!
00:32:35Outside guard!
00:32:45Sergeant Hartman, take charge of the firefighter detail.
00:32:48Okay, sweetheart, you're elected.
00:32:59All right, fellas, get in there and try to stay with me.
00:33:01Come on, try to get in there.
00:33:03Come on, why don't you get in there and get some of that stuff.
00:33:08Get in there and try to stay with me.
00:33:10Here you are, kid.
00:33:12Here's that fever serum.
00:33:13I promised you.
00:33:20Thanks, Sergeant.
00:33:21I didn't even get my feet wet.
00:33:23You're all right, kid.
00:33:28It's Allen, Captain.
00:33:29He's hit bad.
00:33:30He said he heard a noise on the bridge, challenged and fired.
00:33:32Then some guy shot him from the tool house.
00:33:35Take care of him, Sergeant.
00:33:36Yes, sir.
00:33:46The bridge is gone, sir, but Allen got this fella.
00:33:48Call the underbrush for the rest of them.
00:33:50Yes, sir.
00:33:55Come on, take ten yards in and search the bridge.
00:34:02What's so funny?
00:34:04You, you're all dressed up for a fire.
00:34:10Halt.
00:34:13Halt or I'll fire.
00:34:15Sorry, Captain.
00:34:16I was watching something in the bridge.
00:34:23You better keep a lick me in that bucket, McCade.
00:34:25You'll have to get your pretty uniform wet.
00:34:27Listen, you're talking to your superior officers.
00:34:29And I mean superior in every way.
00:34:31Yeah, that reminds me.
00:34:33We're out here in a nice, quiet place where nobody can hear your squeal.
00:34:37And if you'll just forget yourself long enough to get out from underneath those straps, I'll...
00:34:49What are you doing around here?
00:34:53Watch your right.
00:34:54Please, I...
00:34:55Now, wait a minute.
00:34:56Just give me a little idea of what's going on around here.
00:34:58You shouldn't be in such a hurry.
00:35:00You ain't got no place to go.
00:35:01Oh, please, it's nothing.
00:35:02You see, I...
00:35:04Good work, Harrington.
00:35:06There's the pain on the neck that's been causing all our trouble.
00:35:12What happened?
00:35:13Well, you see, I've had my eye on this guy for a long time.
00:35:16He tried to make a getaway and I headed him off.
00:35:18I lost him for a minute and the next thing you know, he's beaten up on horseshoe.
00:35:21Private Donovan, sir.
00:35:22He pins one on his jaw and horseshoe took the count.
00:35:24And you came along and, well, that's about all that happened.
00:35:27Look after Donovan.
00:35:28And, say, get after that other thing we were discussing, Sergeant.
00:35:31Yes, sir.
00:35:33Come on, get up.
00:35:34And don't try any monkey business.
00:35:43Come on, sweetheart, wake up.
00:35:44The Sandman's gone.
00:35:46What happened?
00:35:47Oh, nothing.
00:35:48Somebody just slapped you on the wrist, that's all.
00:35:50No permanent injury, I'm afraid.
00:35:52Come on, you toddle back to camp because I'm on important business.
00:36:17What's the matter, George?
00:36:18Expecting somebody?
00:36:19No, that's the trouble.
00:36:20It's kind of late for you, ain't it?
00:36:22Well, we had a little fire back at the camp.
00:36:23Burned out the storeroom and most of the equipment.
00:36:25Great for the gang, eh?
00:36:26They'll have to lay off for a while.
00:36:27Yeah, until they get the stuff off the ship.
00:36:29Sergeant Donovan okay?
00:36:31Sergeant Donovan is only a memory, George.
00:36:33But if you're referring to Private Donovan, he's back there sitting out under the stars figuring out what a big shot.
00:36:37He was.
00:36:39Gee, you mean you got your stripes back?
00:36:40That's right, George.
00:36:41Justice has triumphed.
00:36:43I came along, of course, with a couple of little ideas of my own.
00:37:07Well, come in, young man.
00:37:09Come in.
00:37:13Why the insane expression?
00:37:14Didn't you ever see a pith helmet before?
00:37:16Yeah, sure.
00:37:17But you, I mean...
00:37:18Oh, please don't froth the mouth.
00:37:19Sit down.
00:37:20Sit down.
00:37:21You deliver my note to Captain Hawthorne?
00:37:23Yes, ma'am.
00:37:24I'm sorry.
00:37:25He's not here.
00:37:26He had to go away.
00:37:27Go away?
00:37:28Well, he had to continue his inspection.
00:37:29I gave him your letter.
00:37:30And when he read it, he felt terrible.
00:37:31Oh, indeed.
00:37:32About having to go away, I mean.
00:37:33You see, it's part of his duty.
00:37:34Hmm.
00:37:35I presume he left someone in command during his absence.
00:37:37Yes, ma'am.
00:37:38He left me instructions to be of any service to you
00:37:40and help you in every way possible.
00:37:41Oh, that was very thoughtful, ma'am.
00:37:42You are, uh...
00:37:43Sergeant Harrington, ma'am.
00:37:44Oh, then I can look to you, Sergeant.
00:37:45For anything you want.
00:37:46You know, uh, my requirements are very simple.
00:37:47You see, I'm an anthropologist.
00:37:49A very noble workman.
00:37:50You know, and all I want, all I really need is someone
00:37:52to accompany me, to assist me.
00:37:53You know, some of the places I want to see and visit
00:37:55would hardly be safe.
00:37:56Don't worry.
00:37:57You'll be safe any place, under the protection
00:37:58of the constabulary.
00:37:59I'll attend to the necessary details.
00:38:06Just a moment, Private Donovan.
00:38:09I'd like a word with you, if you don't mind.
00:38:11How did you get here?
00:38:12You tell.
00:38:13You know everything.
00:38:14And who gave you permission to leave camp
00:38:15this time of the night?
00:38:16You know we can't have privates running around loose.
00:38:19But I won't report you.
00:38:21Oh, no.
00:38:22I don't hold a grudge like some people I know.
00:38:24I wouldn't even put you on kitchen police.
00:38:27I like you, Private Donovan.
00:38:29And I just heard of a nice, soft detail for you.
00:38:34Remember, being absent from camp without permission.
00:38:38Miss Price, this is Private Donovan.
00:38:46You know, I'll never be crazy about that painting I bought.
00:38:48Oh, look at that.
00:38:49Isn't that marvelous?
00:38:50You know, these natives probably succulate me down here.
00:38:53I think they're certainly one of them.
00:38:54Don't you think?
00:38:56Oh, say, and remind me to get that medicine.
00:38:58You know, they tell me to be one of the ram-hatties.
00:39:00You have to love Bagel, you know.
00:39:01He doesn't seem to be enjoying himself.
00:39:03Oh, that's only Horseshoe's way.
00:39:05He's having a time.
00:39:06He?
00:39:07Well, I'm kind of enjoying it myself.
00:39:09My whole family's covered with lumbage.
00:39:11You take my grandfather on my mother's side.
00:39:13Now, he was...
00:39:14What's in there?
00:39:16Oh, that.
00:39:17That's a dive dip for cheap saloon.
00:39:18You don't want to go in there.
00:39:19Why, indeed I do.
00:39:20Those are the very places I do want to see.
00:39:22There won't be anybody in there this time of day.
00:39:24Well, you never can tell.
00:39:25Come on.
00:39:26We'll have a nice, cool drink.
00:39:28It always makes me happy to see Horseshoe taken care of.
00:39:30I noticed that.
00:39:31Oh, I think he's just too, too quaint.
00:39:34Oh, look at that one at the end.
00:39:36What a magnificent type.
00:39:42Well, now we'll have our drink.
00:39:44A nice, cool lemonade.
00:39:46And we can study them at our leisure.
00:39:49What'll it be?
00:39:50Two lemonades.
00:39:53Lemonade?
00:39:55Lemonade.
00:39:56Two lemonades and no crack.
00:40:01When I go for somebody, I go all the way.
00:40:04I'm sure you do.
00:40:05Of course, I could fix it up for you to get to the outpost, but...
00:40:08Well, I'd like us to be closer.
00:40:10I kind of like the feel of me doing something like this.
00:40:13Well, it'll sort of make a difference.
00:40:15I know it will, Flats.
00:40:17Now we're getting someplace.
00:40:19There's a packed train leaving for there in the morning.
00:40:21The sergeant in charge is a friend of mine.
00:40:23You shouldn't go up into that country alone.
00:40:25As a matter of fact, I don't see why you want to go at all.
00:40:28But you know, that's the reason I came down here, to study the natives.
00:40:31I can tell you all about the natives.
00:40:33The information I require is scientific.
00:40:36I can't rely on someone who isn't trained.
00:40:38You don't have to tell me that, Marsha.
00:40:40To tell you the truth, well, I'm an anthropologist myself.
00:40:45You are?
00:40:46Uh-huh.
00:40:47But don't give me away.
00:40:48Oh, I won't.
00:40:49Where did you study?
00:40:50Where did you get your degree?
00:40:51I went to Harvard, Princeton, and I got my third degree at Leavenworth.
00:40:56Oh, that's very interesting.
00:40:58Goodbye, Flats.
00:41:00I'll see you tomorrow.
00:41:02Right.
00:41:03Oh, paradise time for Marsha and me.
00:41:08Sergeant Flats!
00:41:09Sergeant Flats!
00:41:10Hello.
00:41:11Hello, Wildcat.
00:41:12I'm sorry I got angry at the boat.
00:41:14Oh, give me that applesauce.
00:41:16What's on your mind?
00:41:17Where's Horshoe?
00:41:20You don't mean to say you ain't heard.
00:41:22I hear nothing.
00:41:23What should I hear?
00:41:24Oh, your old pal Horshoe has gone the way of all flesh.
00:41:27What do you mean?
00:41:28He's in love.
00:41:29He's having a big romance.
00:41:30The talk of the town.
00:41:31You mean Miss Bradford?
00:41:32I should say not.
00:41:33Miss Price.
00:41:34And he spends all his time with her.
00:41:35I don't believe you.
00:41:37She's buying out all the shops.
00:41:38Looks to me like they're going to start housekeeping right away.
00:41:41I'd kill him.
00:41:42Oh, no you won't.
00:41:43Not when you see them together.
00:41:44They're just like a couple of lovebirds.
00:41:46Where is he?
00:41:47In the cafe.
00:41:48Go take a look for yourself.
00:41:52I don't think I've ever been so happy.
00:41:59I can't tell you how I feel.
00:42:01You've been such a comfort to me.
00:42:13Now I've explained about anthropology.
00:42:15Isn't it thrilling?
00:42:17Just think what a long way those men have traveled
00:42:20since they were curly-haired, gentle little angels in their mother's arms.
00:42:30And another thing.
00:42:31What I wonder...
00:42:34What's the idea?
00:42:36You don't like her?
00:42:37No, I don't like her.
00:42:38Don't get fresh with me.
00:42:39No!
00:42:44No!
00:42:45Horseshoe, look out!
00:42:51Horseshoe!
00:42:52Here he is, Horseshoe!
00:43:13Oh, Horseshoe!
00:43:14Here he is!
00:43:16Oh, Horseshoe, look out!
00:43:17Oh, Horseshoe!
00:43:18Oh, Horseshoe!
00:43:24Oh, Horseshoe, look out!
00:43:33Oh, Horseshoe, look out!
00:43:34Oh, Horseshoe, look out!
00:43:43Help me!
00:43:44Fire!
00:43:50No, no, no!
00:43:55What are you doing with stuff in this?
00:43:57You can't push me.
00:43:58Oh, yes, I can.
00:43:59No, you can't.
00:44:00Oh, yes, I can.
00:44:01Oh, no, you can't.
00:44:02Oh, yes, I can.
00:44:03Oh, yes, I can.
00:44:04Oh, no.
00:44:05You take your hands off me.
00:44:24Stop it!
00:44:25Stop it, I say!
00:44:26Stop it at once!
00:44:27Go on, get out of here!
00:44:28Quickly!
00:44:30Madam, I regret with my whole heart this thing should have happened.
00:44:33These men shall be punished.
00:44:34I promise you.
00:44:37I'm terribly sorry, Mr. Donovan.
00:44:39But what can I say?
00:44:40What can I do?
00:44:41It's okay, you've just come along in time.
00:44:43I was just starting to get a little headache.
00:44:46It's my pleasure, even my duty, to save a hero like you.
00:44:49Or a faint, less ignominious.
00:44:51You may believe me, Sergeant Donovan.
00:44:53What do you mean by that?
00:44:54Nothing, except we should do something about that cut on your head.
00:44:57A little stimulant?
00:44:58Some brandy, perhaps?
00:44:59Sure, brandy, boy.
00:45:01Oh, no, this is a time when a woman knows best.
00:45:03You come with me.
00:45:04Aw, gee, Miss Price.
00:45:05Now, listen, you need a woman's care.
00:45:07That's what you need.
00:45:08I know, but that guy's my pal.
00:45:15Ever since we were recruits together in the Marines, Miss Price,
00:45:18he's been persecuting me, taking advantage of me,
00:45:22just driving me down all the time.
00:45:24Oh, now, please, you need rest.
00:45:26You have a slight concussion.
00:45:28Now, listen, Miss Price.
00:45:29Now, listen, don't argue with me.
00:45:31It's bad for you.
00:45:32I knew that Harrington person was an evil influence for you.
00:45:36He's the perfect, perfect, impropriate type.
00:45:38The big, good, proud subs have been the cause of trouble
00:45:41ever since the beginning of time.
00:45:43I'll bet he's responsible for a sweet boy like you
00:45:45associating with that Lolana.
00:45:47Oh, Lolana's all right.
00:45:49Oh, you poor boy.
00:45:56It's all arranged.
00:45:57We're leaving by pack train tomorrow.
00:46:02What in the world happened?
00:46:03Why, we were set upon by thugs.
00:46:05Mr. Donovan defended my life.
00:46:08You stay here.
00:46:09Put those towels on his head every few minutes.
00:46:11I have an important errand to attend to.
00:46:13Now, we'll see whether that Harrington can get away with this.
00:46:25Oh, you poor dear.
00:46:29Oh, it's you.
00:46:32I don't get a chance to be alone with you, Miss Bradford.
00:46:36Marsha, I heard you say you were going out to camp.
00:46:40And I want you to know that, well, there's nothing better I'd like to do
00:46:44than to take care of you out there.
00:46:46You must be quiet.
00:46:48No, I gotta tell you.
00:46:50You know, it ain't often a guy like me gets a girl.
00:46:52Well, I don't know how you say it.
00:46:55You know, I mean, I know enough about right dressing
00:46:58and marching, soldiers, Marines, but I...
00:47:01Oh.
00:47:08I don't think you should come in now.
00:47:11He says he doesn't feel like seeing anyone.
00:47:23I thought I had him safely out of it when I blocked Captain Hawthorne.
00:47:26But he was picked up in the brush.
00:47:28By Donovan and Harrington.
00:47:30However, our men were standing by last night and I managed to escape.
00:47:33Hurried to Cajano and...
00:47:34And here we are.
00:47:35Just in time, too.
00:47:37Walker's equipment moves out to him tomorrow by pack train.
00:47:40I've just discovered this equipment includes guns and ammunition
00:47:44to establish a constabulary strong point in the jungle.
00:47:47We've got to prevent the delivery of this equipment
00:47:49or Walker's outpost will be impregnable.
00:47:55Undoubtedly, they'll take the trail along the river.
00:47:58Right there.
00:47:59Good.
00:48:00I'll get a message to the tribes to assemble at local flats.
00:48:20I'm almost glad we couldn't fly up now.
00:48:23This is more fun, don't you think?
00:48:25Yes.
00:48:26It'll give us something to look back on when we get old.
00:48:28After all, we're only young once, aren't we?
00:48:30That's true.
00:48:31I do wish Horseshoe could have been with us.
00:48:34Why, Miss Price.
00:48:35Oh, don't be silly.
00:48:36Not for me.
00:48:37For you.
00:48:38You do like him, don't you?
00:48:39Of course.
00:48:40I like Class Harrington, too.
00:48:42Strange girl.
00:48:44Sooner or later, you'll have to get married.
00:48:48Sooner or later, you'll have to make a choice.
00:48:51Miss Price is gone.
00:48:53Gone?
00:48:54When?
00:48:55Where?
00:48:56Yesterday.
00:48:57I do not know where.
00:48:58She left no address.
00:48:59That's odd.
00:49:00I can't understand it.
00:49:10Well, you seem to have made an amazing recovery, Donovan.
00:49:13Recovery, sir?
00:49:14Yes.
00:49:15I expected to find you at death's door.
00:49:39What's that all about?
00:49:41Well, you see, sir, it's a long story.
00:49:43All right, never mind.
00:49:44I'll hear about that tomorrow.
00:49:45Where's Miss Price?
00:49:47Oh, she went with the pack train, sir.
00:49:49Her and Miss Bradford.
00:49:50Pack train?
00:49:51What is this?
00:49:53Who's Miss Bradford?
00:49:54Why, she and Miss Price wanted to go into the back country so they could study the natives, sir.
00:49:58And who gave them permission, if I'm not too inquisitive?
00:50:01Well, I guess it must have been Sergeant Harrington, sir.
00:50:05Oh, he did.
00:50:07You come along with me, Donovan.
00:50:09Yes, sir.
00:50:14Hello, Stu.
00:50:15What do you want to see me about?
00:50:17Read this.
00:50:31What is this, a gag?
00:50:33You ought to know, Sergeant.
00:50:35I mean private.
00:50:36What have you been pulling off?
00:50:38Who, me?
00:50:39Why, nothing.
00:50:40You sure?
00:50:41Well, pretty sure.
00:50:43Yeah, I thought it was something like that.
00:50:45I'm sorry, Slats.
00:50:46You'll have to stick around your quarters.
00:50:56Sergeant, Donovan.
00:50:58Well, how do you like that?
00:51:12Whoa!
00:51:37Whoa!
00:51:39Hey, old kid.
00:51:43What's all that drumming?
00:52:03And now, my friends, fight!
00:52:10Hey, hey, look at me.
00:52:18They are ready to attack us.
00:52:21Take cover!
00:52:40Let him go!
00:52:42Fire!
00:53:10Fire!
00:53:16The Stabular are better soldiers than I thought.
00:53:18Yes, the direct attack is fatal.
00:53:20Send the rest of the men back.
00:53:22We'll pick them off at our leisure.
00:53:24Fire!
00:53:37All right, false alarm.
00:53:39Start crowing.
00:53:40Why, Slatsy, I come to help.
00:53:42You're in a jam.
00:53:43The skipper is sore because you sent my girl on that pack train.
00:53:46What are you kicking about?
00:53:47I sent mine back too, didn't I?
00:53:49What?
00:53:50I sent Marsha with Miss Price, didn't I?
00:53:52Why, you poor sap, you'll never see the day that Marsha...
00:53:55What?
00:53:57Hey, Stu, Jenny!
00:53:59Hey, Stu, Jenny!
00:54:01Hey!
00:54:03Hey!
00:54:04That train's been held up on Moku Flats.
00:54:06I beat it when the natives swooped down.
00:54:08Well, what about the women?
00:54:10Well, they're with a company. They're holed up in the tulips.
00:54:12Well, are they all right?
00:54:13Well, I don't know.
00:54:14There's a bunch of natives, but the firing was kind of dying out.
00:54:17Hello.
00:54:18Come on, guy, get Captain Hawthorne.
00:54:20I'm doing my best, Sarge.
00:54:21Stu, I gotta have that plane.
00:54:22Go away.
00:54:23But my girlfriend's with that pack train.
00:54:24What?
00:54:25On the level.
00:54:26Marsha Branson's with that pack train.
00:54:27Listen, sonny boy, I got a lot of things to do.
00:54:29You go back to your quarters.
00:54:30When I need you, I'll send for you.
00:54:31Until then, you're still under arrest.
00:54:33Any action?
00:54:34No, not yet.
00:54:35Hello?
00:54:52Hey, leave go of those controls.
00:54:54I'm flying this crate.
00:54:55That's what I'm afraid of.
00:54:57Yeah?
00:54:58Well, sit back and relax.
00:54:59Remember, you're still under arrest.
00:55:01Yeah?
00:55:02Well, just the same, I've got to show you who's girl she is.
00:55:21Get me your parachute, Sergeant Hawthorne.
00:55:23Hello.
00:55:46It's a standardized plane.
00:55:48Now, one plane can't do any harm.
00:55:50We shall finish before he can go back and get any help.
00:55:54Tell the men to get ready for the attack.
00:55:56Have an eye.
00:56:00I can't land here, you chump.
00:56:02Well, that's your tough luck.
00:56:03Oh, yes, don't you double-crump.
