Founded in 1998, TAK Records was set up by Kier Scales and Tom Parsons to put out the tracks they made. Their influences ranged through Wild Pitch, the sample looping utilised in music by DJ Sneak and Gene Farris, Prince, the US garage made by Jovonn and Kerri chandler, the weird house output of Gemini and the Acid label, jacking house by Derrick Carter and the house dubs by people like Mateo & Matos.
Classic boss Luke Solomon was regularly sent TAK test pressings during the labels residency at the End, and a great deal of this music found a home in Luke’s record box. Whilst putting together music for the Unfinished Business compilation series, Luke approached the guys. They hit him straight back and sent over a load of unreleased material as well as some of the sought after singles. Luke included Collis King’s ‘Gonna Be Better’ and Timedwellers ‘Barbuda’ on Volume 2, and worked on a few edits. Classic was still left with a few unreleased gems, and low and behold, the beginning of the ‘Classic presents …’ series kicks off with this celebration of the TAK label. As one of those labels that has been buried in the underground, without realising its true potential, Classic is proud to give them a much overdue new lease of life.
