Rescued Gorilla Uses Stick to Help Reach Some Tasty Greens Outside Her Enclosure

A gorilla, rescued from the illegal bushmeat and wildlife trade in Cameroon by Limbe Wildlife Centre, showed that she can think outside of the box, or in this case, outside her enclosure, when it comes to finding ways to snag a treat.The wildlife centre shared video of Akiba using a stick to pry the wires of her enclosure’s fence apart so she could reach her arm out to grab some of the bright green foliage on the other side.“Gorillas are so smart! See how rescued gorilla Akiba uses a stick to lift the wires to grab some tasty green snacks,” the wildlife centre wrote alongside this video. The clip had over 4,900 views at time of writing.Akiba was rescued in 2001 by the Limbe Wildlife Centre when she was less than a year old, they said. She had been kept by a poacher, who planned to illegally sell her, for an estimated six weeks after her mother was killed.
