Measles Outbreak 107 people in the U.S. contracted measles from Jan. 1 through July 14, Federal health officials are currently investigating the outbreak. According to USA Today, the majority of people who contracted the disease had not been vaccinated. Dr. Joe McLaughlin, Alaska state epidemiologist, via 'USA Today' In 2014, a record 677 cases of measles from 27 states were reported to the CDC. Health officials say that two doses of the vaccine will prevent measles 93 percent of the time. An infection of measles can cause pneumonia, encephalitis and even lead to death.
