00:00Along the
00:26banks of the Mississippi River, there once lived a boy named Tom Sawyer, who caused his
00:32Aunt Polly more trouble than a barrel of catfish.
00:35Tom Sawyer, you broke Judge Thatcher's window today.
00:41That toe's not sore, Tom.
00:43Get up and go to school.
00:47Tom Sawyer, stop where you are or I'll box your ears.
00:52Tom?
00:53You call me Aunt Polly?
00:54You broke the cookie jar.
00:59Truth was, Tom's mind was on other things, which he soon told to Bill Harper.
01:05Bill, meet me tonight down at the riverfront.
01:08What do you aim to do, Tom?
01:10I'm not Tom anymore.
01:11I'm the Black Avenger of the Spanish Main.
01:14You'll be the Terror of the Seas.
01:16We're bold, brave river pirates, starting tonight at midnight.
01:22Look, a campfire on the island.
01:29Somebody's here.
01:30Run for it, Tom.
01:31Back to the boat.
01:32Oh, pirates don't run from trouble, Bill.
01:34Come on, let's find out who's at that campfire.
01:40Creeping to the campfire, the pirates came upon two men quarreling with each other, Dr.
01:45Robinson and Injun Joe.
01:48A third man, a tramp named Muff Potter, was asleep nearby.
01:52Suddenly, the Injun drew his knife and struck the doctor down.
01:56Quickly, the Injun put the knife in the hand of the third man dozing near the fire.
02:00Why, the Injun's going to blame someone else, that tramp Muff Potter.
02:05He'll be arrested for sure.
02:10Like startled deer, the pirates sped back to their boat and swore each other to secrecy.
02:16Only three of us know the truth, Bill.
02:18If we talk, that Injun'll scalp us.
02:24Muff Potter was arrested, and it looked as though the truth would never come out.
02:29Then one day, Muff Potter's lawyer hauled Tom Sawyer to court and dragged the truth
02:35out of him.
02:36Now, under oath, point to the man who used this knife that night on Jackson's Island.
02:41Point him out.
02:43It was him, there by the window, Injun Joe.
02:46You're in a peck of trouble now, Tom Sawyer.
02:52Injun Joe's free, and he'll be after you, because now he knows you stole that fight
02:57on Jackson's Island.
03:03Weeks passed, and when Injun Joe failed to return, Tom Sawyer grew braver.
03:08Then, one day, he confided to his girl, Becky Thatcher.
03:13It was a black box full of money, a real treasure box.
03:17Oh, that's what Doc Robinson and Injun Joe quarreled over.
03:20I heard them, so I know, Becky.
03:22Where is the treasure buried?
03:24There's an old barn on Jackson's Island.
03:25It must be buried in there.
03:27Let me go with you.
03:28Nope.
03:29Girls' bad luck on treasure hunts.
03:30You're just scared.
03:31I'm not.
03:32I'm hunting for that treasure tonight, with Bill Harper.
03:38Ready, Terror?
03:39Ready, Black Avenger.
03:41Start digging in that corner, where the floorboard's loose.
03:44Treasure might be there.
03:46I'll stand guard.
03:50No sooner had Bill started digging, than he struck something hard.
03:54Tom, I found the treasure, I found it!
03:59But just then, Tom ran back from the doorway.
04:03Bill, let it be.
04:04Quick, up the ladder to the loft.
04:05Somebody's coming, and I think it's Injun Joe.
04:06Somebody tries to steal money.
04:07I'll fix it.
04:08Carefully, Tom spliced their pants and shirts together, then tied one end to a beam.
04:09Soon, they lowered themselves to the floor.
04:10Make it for the river now, Tom.
04:11I can't.
04:12I can't.
04:13I can't.
04:14I can't.
04:15I can't.
04:16I can't.
04:17I can't.
04:18I can't.
04:19I can't.
04:20I can't.
04:21I can't.
04:22I can't.
04:23I can't.
04:24I can't.
04:25I can't.
04:26I can't.
04:27I can't.
04:28I can't.
04:29I can't.
04:30I can't.
04:31I can't.
04:32Make it for the river now, Tom.
04:33Wait a minute.
04:34Injun Joe must have headed for the cave on the other side of the island.
04:37He's gonna rebury the treasure there.
04:39Let's go after him.
04:40Not me.
04:41I'm going home.
04:46Not long after, a ferry boat took a picnic crowd to Jackson's Island, and Tom invited
04:52Becky Thatcher along.
04:53Do you really think Injun Joe hid the treasure in the cave, Tom?
04:57Well, I'm not sure, but it would be a good place.
05:00Why don't we explore it?
05:02Right now.
05:06Suddenly, Tom tripped over something, fell to his knees.
05:10Becky, look what I tripped over.
05:12The treasure.
05:13That's wonderful.
05:14Now, let's go back.
05:15Wait.
05:16I can't see the entrance to the cave anymore.
05:19Becky, we're lost.
05:23Grimly, Tom and Becky wandered underground.
05:27They had almost given up, when they made a turn in the passageway, and then...
05:31Look, a light.
05:33There's the entrance.
05:34We're safe.
05:38Later on, Tom told the townspeople about the cave.
05:41They were sure Injun Joe would return to get his treasure, so they set up a guard and waited.
05:47One day, he returned, and was caught.
05:53I give up.
05:55I go peaceful.
05:57Tom had helped catch Injun Joe, so he was a hero.
06:01And he had his share of the treasure, too.
06:04But all the money in the world couldn't keep him out of trouble, nor keep him from having more adventures.
