00:08We all know people die.
00:10But did you know animals die too?
00:12And some of those animals have funerals, just like people.
00:20Out here in Hong Kong and all over China,
00:23the pet funeral business is booming
00:25and so of course we had to ask...
00:26Are pet funerals spoopy or spooky?
00:33So, turns out, dog ownership, just like cocaine use,
00:37is a great way to find out
00:38whether or not a country’s people are getting richer.
00:41More money, more dogs.
00:43And with more dogs, come more dog things.
00:46This is a dog memorial and funeral service in Hong Kong.
00:50I established this company seven years ago.
00:52because my pet died, she was a pomeranian.
00:55She died of old age.
00:57And what happened was
00:58back then, I didn't know what services were out there.
01:01Pet ownership in China has been growing at 15% a year
01:04and ranks third for dog ownership worldwide.
01:07And pets, especially dogs, are often symbols of luxury.
01:11I love dogs.
01:14But funerals are obvs emotional times.
01:17In Shanghai, you can even choose a Buddhist dog funeral.
01:20In Hong Kong, you can even plan for your dog’s death,
01:23if planning is your thang.
01:25Or, you could be a real angel,
01:26and send off a street cat to its next life.
01:30Whatever your preference,
01:31China and Hong Kong probably have the right pet funeral for you.
01:35Okay, now that we know cat and dog funerals are def a thing,
01:38we’re going to try something a little different today.
01:40And by different I mean contacting my dead cat, Kitty,
01:43rest her soul.
01:44Kitty was a mother to six beautiful kittens
01:47and we were never able to give her a proper burial
01:48because she ran away from home
01:49and never came back.
01:51But that was over 16 years ago, so she’s def dead.
01:53Now, for the summoning.
01:55I’m going to my magical crystal ball.
02:06Oh my god! Kitty, Kitty, is that you?
02:10Are you safe? Are you warm?
02:12Are your children there?
02:13How are they treating you?
02:15Is the salmon organic?
02:16Or are they feeding you that fake tuna crap?
02:18Is it just one giant litter box in the sky?
02:20Or, or do you even poop anymore?
02:22No Kitty don't go! We never even got to say goodbye!
02:26I would have given you a proper funeral!
02:28Wait!
02:30But back to reality. Chinese pet funerals.
02:34While contacting your dead pet might be spooky,
02:37the reality of pet funerals is downright spoopy.
02:41Emphasis on the poop.
