Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario and athletics legend Kipchoge Keino were on Thursday, October 18 arrested after turning themselves in.
Wario who is the current ambassador to Austria and others are being accused of embezzling tens of millions meant for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The two were among four who turned themselves in to beat a deadline set by Anti-Corruption Court magistrate Douglas Ogoti ahead of their arraignment on Friday.
This past Monday, the magistrate had ordered the culprits to appear before him to take pleas on the charges.
"Failure to present themselves before the DCI, warrants of arrests be issued," the judge directed.
The long distance legend had been asked by DPP Noordin Haji to avail himself to the DCI together with the former Sports CS over the embezzlement of funds meant for 2016 summer games.
It however emerged that the two were were out of the country on separate assignments but were expected to return by Wednesday.
Kipchoge and Wario aside, former director of administration Haron Chebet Komen and ex finance officer in the Sports docket Patrick Kimithi Nkabu will also answer to the graft charges.
The DPP resolved to move on with the case after establishing there was enough evidence to charge the former CS and other officers for the misappropriation of at least Ksh 55 Million.
Detectives revealed that the government had allocated Ksh 544 million for the Olympics which were allegedly misused by Wario and National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) officials.
"Accordingly, I have directed the DCI to immediately have the persons arraigned in court. They are hereby directed to report before the DCI headquarters on or before October 15, 2018..
..failure to which the process of obtaining warrants of arrest shall commence before a competent court," Haji warned.
