Canadian detained in China has been released

According to Reuters, a Canadian citizen who was recently detained in China has returned to Canada after being released from custody. Broadcaster CBC has identified the citizen as Canadian teacher Sarah McIver. China’s Foreign Ministry has announced that earlier this month McIver, was undergoing “administrative punishment” for working illegally. A Canadian official has said that there was no reason to believe that the woman’s detention was linked to the prior arrests.
