Triple Talaq Bill is Modi's weapon to put Muslim men in jail: Sushmita Dev

The Congress will scrap the triple talaq law if it forms the government in 2019, the Congress women’s wing chief Sushmita Dev said on Thursday. Sushmita said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using the triple talaq bill as a weapon to put Muslim men in jail. “We will form government in 2019 and we will repeal this triple talaq law," she said. Sushmita Dev was addressing the Congress' Minority Department convention in Delhi. The revised bill to make instant triple talaq a punishable offence was passed in the Lok Sabha late last year. But opposition parties, led by the Congress, did not allow the passage of the law in Rajya Sabha.
