Sleeping well features prominently in the ideal conception of a healthy lifestyle and is indispensable to our general well-being. We spend approximately one third of our lives asleep and the effects of a bad night's sleep often last well into the day. Take some of the following pointers to bed with you, and you'll make a habit of sleeping better
1. Optimise your bedroom environment by ensuring it's not too bright, you have a suitable temperature and that your mattress is comfortable 2. Stick to a relatively regular sleeping pattern and maintain consistency into the weekend 3. Wind down slowly for up to an hour before sleeping and relax by reading or listening to music 4. Take a hot bath or shower just before you wind down; light some candles and don't rush 5. Avoid too many screens and bright lights in the run up to bed time 6. Avoid eating or snacking too late into the night and try to eat dinner approximately 4 hours before bed 7. Avoid caffeine, sugar dense substances and alcohol as these will all perk you up 8. Don't overthink or stress too much and try to keep your mind clear of too many conflicting or overpowering toughts
