Much as Red Meat, Study Says The study also found that a diet
high in saturated fat increased
cholesterol, no matter what
type of protein a person eats. The results of the small
study were published
Tuesday in the American
Journal of Clinical Nutrition. 113 adults were asked to
eat either a diet of lean cuts
of poultry, lean cuts of red
meat or plant protein. At the end of one month,
each person had their LDL
cholesterol checked, and then
rotated to one of the other diets. LDL cholesterol is
often referred to as
"the bad cholesterol." At the end of three
months, each person had
been on each of the three diets. The participants were split
between a high and low
saturated fat diet,
regardless of their protein. Dr. Ronald Krauss, study author, via NBC News For people trying to lower
their LDL cholesterol,
researchers say a switch to
plant protein may be the best approach.
