00:00At least two people have been killed in a hotel collapse in Krof, Germany.
00:11Hundreds of nationalities gather in the heart of Budapest as the 30th edition of Sziget
00:16Festival kicks off today.
00:21British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that UK protesters will fill the full force of
00:27the law following what he called widespread disorder during a high-level government meeting.
00:33400 arrests and 100 charges have already been made.
00:45That should send a very powerful message to anybody involved either directly or online
00:51that you are likely to be dealt with within a week and that nobody, but nobody should
00:57be involving themselves in this disorder.
00:59Prior to this meeting, Elon Musk had posted on his social media platform X that civil
01:05war is inevitable in the UK, highlighting complaints by other X users that the British
01:12criminal justice system treats Muslims more leniently than far-right activists, although
01:18Starmer avoided commenting directly on this.
01:22He said his focus was on ensuring that all communities are safe.
01:26In Southport, mourners gathered at St. Patrick's Church in remembrance of Alice Dalsilva Aguiar,
01:32a nine-year-old girl who was killed in last week's knife attack.
01:37Families and friends paid a tribute to the little girl with a send-off of white balloons.
01:42The riots were sparked by the spread of misinformation about the identity of the suspect.
01:50It is quite literally the food of champions, and organizers of the Paris Olympics are determined
01:56that it will not go to waste.
01:58Food that goes on eating at the Games by athletes, spectators and workers is helping those in
02:04need around the French capital, an effort to cut down on waste and contribute to sustainability.
02:10Since the beginning we've received about, for this warehouse here in Gennevilliers,
02:15we've received about 15 tons and overall with the other warehouse in Paris about 30 tons.
02:23Some of the bounty collected by the food bank was brought to a grocery store in Epinar-sur-Seine,
02:29a northern suburb of Paris that sells food at deeply discounted prices.
02:35Yes, we benefit because it helps us, it helps us normally, us people who don't have a lot
02:43of salary, we go to the store to buy more, we buy less here.
02:50In addition to helping those in need, organizers say they hope the food donations will set
02:56an example for other Olympics to follow.
03:01Two people have been killed in Kropf, Germany, after a hotel building partially collapsed.
03:19Fourteen people were in the hotel in the winemaking town on the Moselle River when one story of
03:25the building collapsed late on Tuesday night.
03:28Five people were able to get out of the building unhurt, but another nine were trapped.
03:45Emergency services said they were able to rescue four people from the rubble, including
03:51a two-year-old child and the mother.
03:54Authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the collapse.
04:03Two activists from the animal rights organization PIDA interrupted the Pope audience, a weekly
04:09assembly held by Pope Francis.
04:12The duo were wearing T-shirts reading, ''Stop Blessing Corridas'' and holding banners saying
04:16that bullfighting is a sin.
04:19PIDA has been urging the Pope to cut the Catholic Church's ties with Spanish-style bullfighting
04:24and to condemn the sport.
04:27The Pope did not comment immediately after the disruption, and the audience continued
04:31as usual after the protesters were silently escorted out of the hall.
04:38In his address to the public, Pope Francis called for peace in the Middle East and urged
04:42for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
04:55He also prayed for peace in other countries afflicted by a war, including Ukraine, Myanmar
05:01and Sudan.
05:07Former President of Catalonia, Carlos Cluj-Montt, has announced that he will return to the European
05:13Union next year.
05:15He said that he will continue to fight for peace in the Middle East.
05:24He will return to Spain after avoiding charges for nearly seven years.
05:54There, we will celebrate the investiture of the Socialist Salvador Illa, who has managed
05:59to recover the support of Esquerra Republicana de Cataluña, the other independentist party
06:03of the Chamber.
06:04Carlos Cluj-Montt on X vowed to be present at Thursday's vote on the region's presidency.
06:10It is unclear how Cluj-Montt will enter the country without facing immediate arrest, but
06:15it is believed the separatist leader might try to enter illegally.
06:35Cluj-Montt has been avoiding charges of rebellion, sedition and embezzlement.
06:41He fled Spain after authorities ordered his detention for organising an illegal independence
06:47referendum in 2017.
07:05The Austrian branch of the Climate Action Group Last Generation announced that they
07:11are disbanding and ending their protests.
07:14Activists say that they aren't seeing any prospect for success and that the government
07:18is not responding to their requests.
07:35Last Generation had several tactics but mostly relied on disruptive forms of action.
07:42One of the group's infamous acts includes blocking traffic by gluing themselves to busy
07:47roads and airport tarmacs.
07:50Communication experts say that this form of disruption does catch the public's attention
07:55but is often short-lived and does not result in political change.
08:05Why?
08:06Because it has to be decided on a high level and not on the streets.
08:11I don't think it's good because the attention of climate activists has contributed to people
08:16starting to think.
08:18Activists of the group claim that this does not mean the resistance is over, but instead
08:23that it is time for new and different campaigns to form.
08:28There are 4,000 Italians living in Lebanon and our priority is to protect both them and
08:34our troops deployed to the country.
08:36We are ready for any event should the situation deteriorate.
08:40That's the message given on Tuesday by Italy's Foreign Secretary Antonio Tajani in a parliamentary
08:45briefing.
08:46The Italian government said Tajani is closely monitoring the situation while urging regional
08:50leaders asking them for a de-escalation of tensions.
08:55Last Sunday, under the Italian presidency, the minister called a G7 meeting to discuss
09:00the ongoing crisis.
09:01The group of seven expressed their support for US President Joe Biden's plan and the
09:06need for a ceasefire in Gaza.
09:24Meanwhile, opposition parties have attacked Israel and the Italian government for failing
09:54to recognise the Palestinian state.
09:56Recent developments, both in Lebanon and in Iran, seem to have stalled a ceasefire
10:26talks, which are crucial to easing tensions.
10:29Neither Israel nor Iran is looking for an all-out war, although they seem unlikely to
10:34listen to calls for restraint.
10:36George Orlandi for Euronews in Rome.
10:44Hamas says it has chosen Yahya Sinwar, its top official in Gaza, as its new political
10:50leader.
10:52The move follows previous leader Ismail Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran on the 31st of July,
10:58the Palestinian group said on Tuesday.
11:0161-year-old Sinwar is seen by Israel as the mastermind behind the October 7th attack,
11:08in which more than 1,100 people were killed and over 200 taken captive.
11:14He has been in deep hiding since then.
11:18Reacting to the appointment, Israel military spokesman Daniel Hagari told Saudi television
11:23that Sinwar's place is next to Hamas commanders Israel already claims to have killed.
11:30Yahya Sinwar is an arch-terrorist responsible for one of the most horrible terror acts in
11:36history, Hagari said, referring to the 7th of October attack on Israel.
