Fall is a time of golden leaves, and now you can craft your very own. All you need is modeling clay, a maple leaf, and an oven!
You'll Need:
- 1 packet of modeling clay, suitable for an oven
- 1 large, green maple leaf
- craft knife
- rolling pin
- toothpick
- glass bowl
- oil
- metallic acrylic paint
- paintbrush
Here's How:
1. For a medium-sized bowl, first take the craft knife and cut about a handful of modeling clay from the block and form it into a ball. Then, take the rolling pin and use it to roll the ball of clay out flat, until it's about half an inch thick. Next, place the maple leaf on the clay and press it in with your fingers, so the contours of the leaf are pushed into the clay. But you won't be able to see that yet at this stage.
2. Now the toothpick comes into play: use it to carefully remove the modeling clay from around the leaf. You can forget about the stem. Next, carefully peel the leaf off the sheet of clay. Gently lift the leaf shape from your work surface with the craft knife and place it the center of an oiled bowl. This should be large enough that the edges of the leaf shape curve upwards towards the rim of the bowl.
3. Place the bowl containing the clay leaf in the oven and bake for 25 minutes at 225°F. Once out of the oven, wait until the baked clay has cooled, remove it from the bowl and then use the acrylic paint to make it a more attractive color. The painted leaf bowl will make an eye-catching addition to your table, and at the same time, provide a practical storage for jewelry, makeup or keys.

Unlike real leaves, your homemade one will last the entire winter. Try it out for yourself now!
