Easter will be here any day now and if you haven't already picked up an Easter basket, you might find yourself out of luck come this weekend. Or maybe you just prefer to add a personalized touch to the upcoming festivities. In either case, this homemade paper mâché Easter egg will be the perfect way for your little ones to collect all the goodies the Easter Bunny will be bringing their way!
You'll Need:
- 1 roll of toilet paper
- water
- 1 balloon
- craft knife or scissors
- paintbrush & paint
- 1 wooden skewer
- ribbon
- Easter candy & grass for decoration
Here's How:
1. Tear off about half of the cut sheets from a roll of toilet paper. Then blow up a balloon to the size you want your Easter egg to be.
2. Dip the toilet paper sheets one at a time into a bowl of water and place the wet sheets on the balloon. Place enough sheets on the balloon until it's completely covered in paper, and then layer the rest of the sheets on top to make the egg more stable. Make sure to leave the tied part of the balloon uncovered.
3. Place the balloon on a glass and let it dry. Depending on the type of toilet paper and number of layers, this can take up to one day.
4. When the toilet paper layers have hardened, cut off the tied end of the balloon and pull the balloon out through the small hole.
5. Cut a large jagged section out of the Easter egg with a craft knife or scissors. Paint the inside of the egg and decorate the outside.
6. Break off a small piece of a wooden skewer and tie a ribbon around it. Thread this wooden piece through the small hole at the top of the egg and now you can hang the Easter egg.
Fill the homemade Easter egg with green Easter grass and plenty of Easter candy for a delightful finishing touch.
