Learn how to make Restaurant Style healthy and tasty Dal khichdi with our chef Seema Gadh.

An elaborate yet easy khichdi that makes a wholesome and delicious meal, the Dal Khichdi is made of moong dal and rice combined with not just whole spices but also onions, garlic, and tomatoes. This imparts a tangy twist to the khichdi making it holistic in terms of taste too. It can be served with ghee, papad, and pickle.
The national food of India is super healthy, protein-packed and nourishing.

Ingredients:
(Serves 2)

- 1/2 cup Rice
- 1/2 cup Yellow Lentils
- Water (for soaking rice & dal)
- Ghee
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 Bay leaf
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks
- Whole black peppers
- 2 tsp Ginger(chopped)
- 2 tsp Garlic(chopped)
- 2 Onions (chopped)
- 2 Tomatoes (chopped)
- Salt (as required)
- Turmeric powder
- 4 cups of water
- Carrot(grated)
- Coriander Leaves(chopped)

Method:

1. Take rice, yellow lentils in a large bowl, mix well and add water

2. Now mix, wash dal and rice with water and let it soak for 15-20 minutes

3. Now for tempering, Keep the cooker on the gas, start it and add ghee, cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon sticks, whole black peppers, ginger, garlic.

4. Now, add onions and Saute it well (Don't let onions turn red)

5. Add tomatoes, mix it and then add salt, turmeric powder

6. Now, Take the Soaked Dal & Rice, put it in the cooker and mix it with the tempering

7. Add 4 cups of water in the cooker

8. Close the lid of the cooker, keep it for 2-3 whistles and then cook it for around 5 minutes on a low flame.

9. Now, beat it with a wood beater, then add grated carrot, coriander leaves on top and mix it
