MANILA - The Armed Forces of the Philippines is urging the Communist Part of the Philippines to focus on non-violent means of attaining its goals, citing the peaceful EDSA revolt in 1986. AFP public affairs chief Ramon Zagala said the EDSA Revolution was the loudest expression of the Filipino's rejection of the armed communist struggle. Peace talks between government and the CPP-NPA remain stalled over government's refusal to release some communist members who are facing criminal charges. "Instead of using armed struggle, do it peacefully. We are democratic country, so if they want change, they can do it peacefully," Zagala said. He said the Communist Party can always work for change peacefully without resorting to extortion, armed attacks and other forms of violence and criminal activity.
