Authorities found more than 50 dead sharks in a Vietnamese poaching vessel that was conducting compressor fishing in waters within the territory of Taytay, Palawan. Among those found in the boat were great white sharks, bull sharks and hammerhead sharks. These endangered sharks were poached for their fins. The Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Special Boat Unit arrested 11 Vietnamese poachers. P/Insp. Bryan Espinosa told ABS-CBN News Palawan that according to Republic Act 8550 or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines, there is no jail term for the arrested poachers but there is a fine of $100,000 or more than P4,000,000 each.
