Chinese envoy to Australia says reports of detention of Uighurs 'fake news'

China’s ambassador to Australia has labelled reports on the detention of one million Muslim ethnic Uighurs in Xinjiang province as fake news.

Cheng Jingye said that in a press conference in Canberra on Friday, and also defended China’s detention of former Chinese diplomat turned writer, Yang Hengjun.
