In this video lecture I tried to explain what dipole moment is and how it depends upon molecular geometry. Dipole moment and electronegativity are two very important terms to chemists. I discussed how difference in electronegativity of atoms generates dipole moment in a molecule. Acquiring knowledge about dipole moment chemistry is very important to students because there is a significant relationship between dipole moment and molecular structure. I explained about formula and direction of dipole moment in this discussion. In this discussion the main factor under scrutiny is dependence of dipole moment of a molecule on spatial arrangement of its constituent atoms around the central atom. I used several examples in this video lecture to explain the relationship between dipole moment and molecular geometry. Dipole moment and polarity are two very important terms in the chapter chemical bonding for the students of class 11. Dipole moment generates polarity in a molecule. This video will help the students who are preparing for IIT, JEE etc. This topic is included in the syllabus of class 11 of NCERT. Chemical bonding is the backbone of chemistry. I hope this video will create immense interest among the students about chemical bonding, molecular structure and molecular polarity. I tried my best to inspire the students to learn the topic which is very important for various competitive examinations also.
