Bohr’s atomic model is a fundamental model which explains about atomic structure and movement of electrons inside an atom. Danish scientist Niels Bohr explained the causes of stability of an atom through his postulates in 1913. According to Bohr’s postulate electrons are revolving around the nucleus are confined to certain fixed orbits called shells or energy levels. According to Bohr’s atomic model each orbit has constant radius and fixed amount of energy. Electrons can move from one energy level to another. As per Bohr’s postulates, electron can jump from lower to higher energy level after absorption of energy and it may drop from higher energy level to lower energy level with radiation or emission of energy. Bohr’s model of the hydrogen atom is a gateway to modern atomic structure chemistry. Distribution of electrons in the shells is an important aspect of this video lecture about Bohr’s model of atom. I discussed about the various rules imposed by Bohr and Burry in this video. Electrons will be filled up from lower energy level to higher energy level as per Bohr-Bury scheme. The octet rule was also focused in this lecture. I showed the electronic configuration of Calcium atom to explain the Bohr-Bury principle and illustrated the octet rule and its importance to make an electronic configuration stable in ground state of an atom. I hope students will use this video lecture as a learning tool and it will propel their interest to expand their knowledge about Bohr’s atomic model and Bohr-Bury scheme.
