You actually burn more calories while menstruating, this is why you feel hungrier. It’s only logical that you need to eat more as your body is using more energy.
Period is constituted of two phases: follicular and luteal phases during which levels of hormones (estrogen and progesterone) are not the same. This leads to a hunger increase.
During the follicular phase, estrogen is up. This is why you often feel moody, as a result your body will ask for some comfort food such as chocolate to get your mood up.
Your body is tired as during period, iron level decreases. It does make sense that you need to eat more in order to compensate.
Feeling hungrier during your period is normal. The important is to listen to your body and avoid excesses.
Try to always choose the healthier option even though a pizza or a chocolate bar from time to time never hurted anyone!
