Synopsis - Guido Contini is a director on the verge of a creative crisis. Torn between Carla's carnal love and Luisa's conjugal love, Guido looks for a story to tell and a dream to dream. Pressed by his producer who wants to shoot, from feelings of guilt and sexual anxieties, the director abandons sets and press conferences and finds refuge in the bedroom of a Grand Hotel, far from Rome and from responsibilities. Under pressure, he collapses in his lover's arms and humiliates her wife once too often, who abandons him to his never-started movie and his never-ending appetites. Desperate, Guido dismisses the 'workers' and retires along the border between fantasy and reality. Away from the set, the man reconciles himself with the artist and with all the female figures in his life.
