Funny Girl is a 1968 film directed by William Wyler, based on the 1964 musical of the same name, starring Barbra Streisand and Omar Sharif.
Plot: It is the biography of Fanny Brice (1891-1951), an artist of the Ziegfeld Follies who had great success between the two wars. Born poor, in the Jewish neighborhood of the East Side of New York, Fanny is not a beautiful girl, but she is gifted with great talent and a sense of humor. Having been noticed by the great impresario Florenz Ziegfeld, she debuts on Broadway obtaining great success in a very short time and becoming a star of the most famous variety company in the United States.
Fanny marries three times, the first of which to an adventurer met in Baltimore. Nick Arnstein, a charming professional of the gaming tables, involves her in the ups and downs of gambling: after a year of happy life, he is overwhelmed by debts and must serve two years in prison for fraud. He asks for a divorce from Fanny and, after serving his sentence, Fanny grants it to him, remaining alone.
