Unlawful force used in Indigenous elder’s arrest has some calling for an overhaul of police powers

A court has found that unlawful force was used in the arrest of a 65-year-old Indigenous elder in the remote community of Doomadgee in Queensland. The report also showed 43-year-old Brendon Johnson of Lake Cargelligo suffered four broken ribs upon his arrest, which has now sparked calls for laws to be changed around reasonable force and an overhaul of police powers.
