Flash floods hit Ompo Village, Lalabata District, Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi, Monday (6/12) morning. As many as two houses of Dusun Cabbue which are located on the banks of the river, were swept away by the swift current of the flood.
"The two houses that were swept away by the flood belonged to Laupe and Herman Wijaya," said Rokhyanti, Head of Logistics at the Soppeng Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
Even circulating on social media video footage of the seconds of a resident's house being swept away by the flood and smashed into a bridge.
"Their house was destroyed by the water and its contents while the owner of the house and other occupants managed to save themselves before their house was carried away by the water," added Rokhyanti.
This flash flood event is thought to have occurred due to the high rainfall that lasted since last night and caused the Lawo river, which is located around residential areas, to no longer be able to accommodate the existing water discharge.
