Most students make the mistake of starting their research papers without taking time to consider whether it will require qualitative or quantitative research methods. There is no doubt that there is a significant difference between the two research methods. Qualitative research mostly utilized verbal data while quantitative research makes use of measurable data. On the same note, whereas qualitative research methods gather data using focus groups and interviews, quantitative research methods, on the other hand, mostly uses observations and interviews.
It is essential to note that quantitative research is usually suited for establishing the cause and effect relationship as well as in testing hypothesis so that the researcher can determine practices, attitudes, and opinions of a large population. In a qualitative research, the researcher aims at developing theories and hypotheses as well as in describing the mode of communication or decision making process that has been utilized.
