Turkish man falls into a giant 20 foot sinkhole vending machine fall on him
This is the moment a shop owner vanished into a 20-foot sinkhole which opened up underneath him after he stepped outside for a cigarette break.
Footage filmed on February 4 in the Kadokoy neighbourhood of Istanbul shows Omer Kacagan talking on his phone while smoking outside the Nehir Tekel store.
As he walked towards two vending machines the ground collapsed and he plunged into the hole, along with one of the machines.
Despite saying that one of the vending machines fell on him, Kacagan said he only suffered minor injuries and was rescued by the fire brigade within 25 minutes.
Kacagan explained that he was talking on the phone during a quiet moment in the shop and said he fell about 20 feet.
He told local media: 'I was talking on the phone in front of my business because there were no customers.
'All of a sudden, the ground I stepped on collapsed under my feet. I fell about six metres.
Meanwhile, a drinks machine fell with me. Fellow shopkeepers and bystanders reported the incident to the necessary authorities, and I was rescued by firefighters around 25 minutes later.'
It is unclear what caused the ground to collapse and if the local authorities are investigating the matter.
Some local reports suggested there had previously been a well on the site in front of a three-storey building which has shops on the bottom floor.
