This is a large square fortress in Bahawalpur, The fortress's forty bastions can be seen from a distance in the Cholistan Desert. This is among the top tourist attractions in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is about 100 Km from Bahawalpur City. Last night, I was in Bahawalpur City. It takes about two hours to reach Derawar Fort. The road is in good condition. annually a Jeep rally is organized at Derawar Fort. the land is being arable in this area. Wheat is the main crop. The Cholistan Desert is scenic. This site is famous for Photography. The walls are up to 30 m high, have a circumference of 1500 m. The fortress was built by Rai Jajja Bhatti, a Rajput ruler of the Bhatti clan. It was built in the 9th century as a tribute to Rawal Deoraj Bhatti, a Rajput king from the area around Jaisalmer and Bahawalpur. The fortress was originally called DeraRawal and later DeraRawar, from which the current name Derawar derived. In the 18th century, the Muslim Nawabs of Bahawalpur took over the fortress from the Shahotra tribe. Although historically significant, it is a symbol of the Cholistan Desert. The fortress was included in the list of sites proposed for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016. Now Punjab Govt is restoring this historical fort but only 7 workers are here, It may take 50 years to complete this project. I shall walk in the fort. This is Shahi Masjid. This is a royal graveyard.
