Kobe beef (神戸ビーフ, Kōbe bīfu) is Wagyu beef from the Tajima strain of Japanese Black cattle, raised in Japan's Hyōgo Prefecture according to rules set out by the Kobe Beef Marketing and Distribution Promotion Association. The meat is a delicacy, valued for its flavor, tenderness, and fatty, well-marbled texture. Kobe beef can be prepared as steak, sukiyaki, shabu-shabu, sashimi, and teppanyaki. Kobe beef is generally considered one of the three top brands (known as Sandai Wagyu, "the three big beefs"), along with Matsusaka beef and Ōmi beef or Yonezawa beef.

Kobe beef is also called Kōbe-niku (神戸肉, "Kobe meat"), Kōbe-gyū or Kōbe-ushi (神戸牛, "Kobe cattle") in Japanese.[1

In recent years, halal Kobe beef has garnered a lot of attention. It was known internationally as the most costly and delectable meat.

In July 2022, Issho Ueno, a halal restaurant a short distance from JR Ueno station, will begin serving halal Kobe beef steak. The establishment now sells halal Kobe beef as the ONLY restaurant in Tokyo!

You can choose the part you want between ribeye and sirloin. Sirloin is the softest part that easily melts in your mouth and is the most expensive meat, while ribeye has a slightly firm texture and less fatty than sirloin.

The Kobe beef is offered on the course menu, which also includes tempura, fresh sashimi, motsunabe, and dessert. The course menu is available for groups of two or more.

In enjoying the Kobe beef steak, you can choose to eat it as it is, dips it in a sweet sauce, or have it with some amount of wasabi.


Most foreigners in Japan do not good at eating wasabi, but wasabi from Issho Ueno does not spicy at all

The store manager claims that premium wasabi is not particularly spicy and pairs well with cuisine. So try pairing wasabi with Kobe beef steak for yourself!


A Flavorful Motsunabe might be served to conclude the meals.

Historically, Issho Ueno was renowned for its outstanding motsunabe. They are ranked as the best motsunabe restaurant in Tokyo by the well-known Japanese food website "Tabelog" (Ueno area).

Motsunabe refers to a Japanese hot pot filled with offal/hormone, cabbage, and leek dipped in a broth seasoned with soy sauce, garlic, miso, and chili pepper.
