The St. Louis Cardinals took to Twitter on Oct. 14, 2022 to announce Sutter's death.
According to Bleacher Report, Sutter played for the Chicago Cubs during the first five seasons of his career.
In 1979, he won the NL Cy Young award and finished the season with a 2.22 ERA, 37 saves and
110 strikeouts in 101.1 innings and 62 appearances.
Sutter was traded to the Cardinals in 1980. He helped the team triumph over the Milwaukee Brewers to win the 1982 World Series.
Prior to the 1985 season, Sutter joined the Atlanta Braves as a free agent.
He endured four years of injuries before being released by the Braves in 1989.
Both the Cubs and Cardinals have inducted Sutter into their respective Hall of Fames.
The pitcher was also elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.
