FRISCO, TX - The Dallas Cowboys have officially started the 21-day window to activate WR James Washington. Washington will have his first practice with the Cowboys since fracturing his foot during the first padded practice in training camp back in July.
Washington signed as a free-agent during the offseason but has yet to play any games with the Cowboys due to the foot fracture. Washington previously played for the Stealers for four years and had 114 catches for 1,1629 yards receiving for 11 touchdowns.
Dallas’s roster was already full as of Tuesday morning and with space needed to be created for James Washington and Tyron Smith, the Cowboys waived DE Tarell Basham on Tuesday morning. Basham played every game last season and had 627 defensive snaps, which was most amongst any other Dallas defensive line in 2021. This year Basham has only played two games.
According to Head Coach Mike McCarthy the decision to waive Basham was more about spots on the roster than anything else. Dallas is solid in the DE department and has good depth there. Where the Cowboys need to see more is at WR. Washington will bring another wideout option to Dallas while they figure out what the plan will be with Odell Beckham Jr.
There’s been a lot of talk about if the Cowboys are interested in Beckham Jr. and the answer is yes. Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are expected to meet with him this upcoming Monday for discussion.
“Yes we are,” Jones tells 1053thefan about still planning on meeting with Beckham Jr. “We may have intermittent conversations but our anticipation is to meet as soon as Monday.”
Beckham Jr. has announced he is still interested in the Bills and the Giants so having him as another receiver on this roster is up in the air as of right now. If Dallas can not secure Beckham Jr. Washington will be a good addition to the WR depth chart.
